The Best Piece of Booty is in Diapers

I've been spending a great deal of time with my nephew, Hunter, this summer. He's quickly becoming my favorite partner in crime and puts a genuine smile on my face way too often. It's safe to say we are developing a relationship based upon the truest form of love. What a lucky guy.

Anyway, we've been thoroughly enjoying our summer together by hitting up the trendiest hot spots including, Steiner Aquatic Center, the gully, Nordstrom, Gateway Mall, and Canyon Rim Park. We've also been working on our tan lines, dancing, logging some quality marathon training miles, and getting a high dose of beauty rest together, all while delighting in each other's company.

I just can't seem to get enough of his stinky ass.
And I'm perfectly okay with that.

Starfleet Academy... Here I come

I treated myself to a great movie yesterday.

Now all I can think about is going "where no man has gone before" and commanding my very own Starfleet ship.

I Want to Heal the World

posted on: Thursday, May 14, 2009

My mother once told me, "Kaitlyn, you have the gift of crying."

Whoa, wait. Who said it was a gift?

It's true. I cry a lot. I mean a lot. Daily. Obviously, I cry when I'm sad. I cry when I'm angry. I cry when I'm happy. I cry when I'm hungry. I cry when I'm nervous. I cry when I'm excited. I cry during every movie, I can even cry while I read. And often, I cry just because. It's just who I am, and for me there is no better way to lift the weight and stress of my world from my shoulders than by releasing it through my tears.

But a gift? I've never thought of this trait as a gift.

It should come as no surprise that tonight, I cried.

I read an article in the Salt Lake Tribune that devastated me. So I cried. And then, I cried some more.
I cried for the children, and women, and men in Darfur.
I cried for the estimated 25,000 children that die each day due to poverty.
I cried for the displaced people in Sri Lanka who are being terrorized and killed.
I cried because of genocide happening all over the world.
I cried for the millions of people around the world living with and dying from AIDS and HIV.
I cried for my own country, and the selfish choices we make without realizing all that we already have.
I cried because of the drug wars happening in Mexico and the countless number of victims that have been claimed.
I cried for the shameful wars happening in Iraq and Afghanistan and Israel.
I cried for the sweet underprivileged children that my mom teaches, many of whom wake up daily to seemingly hopeless futures.
I cried because I feel overwhelmed and hopeless over the conflicts, wars, and hate our world faces.
I cried and cried. And cried some more. Now I'm crying again.

So, crying is supposed to be a gift, huh?
Along with every other reason that I cry, I undoubtedly cry when I feel passionately about something. No matter what it is.
I guess it could be a gift. A gift of expression.

So, although I'm heading to bed with a tear streaked face and a discouraged heart, I'm grateful tonight for all that I'm blessed with. I truly am blessed. I hope that the path of my life leads me in a direction that will bless me with opportunities to help ease the burdens of the many people in the world who have little to hope for.
And that, I feel very passionately about.

Kindly,
Kait

Rockin' and Runnin'

posted on: Wednesday, May 13, 2009

I'd be lying if I told you that running is an enjoyable experience right from the moment my Nike's hit the pavement. It's not. The first 10-20 minutes are usually miserable and I literally have to envision myself running towards my very own imaginary medical marijuana card just to force myself to keep going. In my attempts to make those first few moments a bit more bearable, I've been experimenting with different playlists on my ipod, searching for one that will aid in "getting my mind right" during that first part of my long runs. I've tried everyone from Michael Buble to Lil Wayne, but it hasn't been until recently that I've found the winner and my partner on the pavement. It's no surprise that the best "pick me up" playlist, the one that really gets my heart going and my legs cruising, happens to be my cousin Curtis' band, Vayden.

So, Vayden, thanks for keeping me on my feet and pumping me up. As long as you're pulsating through my headphones, I may have a chance at making it through this marathon... alive. Oh, and if you ever find yourself doing a show up this way, you can be assured that my Nike's and I will be there.

Kindly,
Kait

You can listen to more of Vayden here, you can join them here, and you can learn about them here. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday, Sister!

"Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of. You know whatever you do, they'll still be there."

My Lyndsey is growing up.
Too fast, if you ask me.
I thought she'd always be mine, but now "Naughty Conradi" has come along and plans to steal her for "eternity".
Let's be honest...
Losing my sister to a wedding ring is slightly heartbreaking,
but I'm dealing.
Anyway, on this day, twenty years ago, my first little sister came into my world. Since then and forever more, she'll always be my "almost best friend"...
even after "Naughty Conradi" whisks her away.

So, to my sister,
Although today is your birthday, it's a special day for me as well and a day that marks one of the most precious moments in my life. There is no better friend than a sister, and there is no better sister than you (and Shelby, wink wink)
Happy Birthday Lynds!

Kindly,
Kait

Dear Mama,

I don't show you or tell you often enough, but I hold you on a pedestal that is too high for me to express in words. You are the most amazing woman I know and ever will know. Your love for me is unconditional, and I know that is true without any doubt. You have never failed me. Please know that you are so precious to me. I’m ashamed of ways I’ve treated you in the past and am consciously trying to honor you the way you deserve to be honored which is with all of the respect and love that I possess. I love you more than I’ll ever be able to verbally express. I am unsure of what I did to deserve the privilege of being your daughter, but for that, I am forever grateful.

Burn One More Down...

Herb's a gift, from the earth
And what's from the earth is of the greatest worth
So before you knock it, try it first
Oh, you'll see it's a blessing and it's not a curse
If you don't like my fire, then don't come around
Cause I'm gonna burn one down.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

posted on: Wednesday, April 1, 2009

April 1st is always a favorite. Not only is it April Fools Day, but it also happens to be my birthday.
I enjoyed MY day this year, turning 25 is a big milestone, and I was touched by the many facebook birthday wishes that graced my wall, the well wishing text messages that flooded my inbox, and even an offer for lunch. I have great friends...

HA!
But I am much smarter than them!

April Fools!...

April 1st ended up being a better day than usual this year for it is NOT in fact my birthday!

So, the joke is on you my friends. I ended the day feeling great not only because I got a "free" birthday, but because I got to lie all day and not feel guilty about it.
Next year will be bigger and better. My prankster mind is already brewing up brilliant ideas.

Beware.

Oh... and I'm also not 25... yet. Ha! Gotchya again!

25 Things About Me

posted on: Tuesday, February 3, 2009

1. I value my time alone above many other things. I love to be around people but I regularly require time to spend with myself and regenerate.

2. I love to read. In the right weather, a beautiful view, and delicious snacks I could do it all day long and never stop.

3. I fall hard for the ones that are wrong for every girl, especially me. It's statistically proven.

4. I want to be a winner. I really hate losing. Anything.

5. I rocked an afro until I was 5. Naturally.

6. I'm fiercely loyal until I feel betrayed.

7. I rely too much on my intuition although it's hardly ever failed me.

8. I make decisions based on my feelings and rarely think through them until afterwards. This method hasn't always been successful but its definitely been fun.

9. I'm not really big on going to see movies all the time. I'll see one here and there, and if it's a good one, I can easily get into it. Although, if I've only seen it once, chances are I've already forgotten it.

10. My heart belongs to music. It's an addiction unlike any drug I've ever tried and I won't tell you what those are.

11. Along with that, I secretly dream of becoming an A&R Rep and spending the rest of my life discovering extraordinary musical talent.

12. I'm also a lyrical database. I know the words to just about every song I hear and if I don't I'm damn good at guessing. This also applies to rap songs.

13. I love my family so unconditionally and the thought of being without them used to give me severe anxiety. Of course, now sometimes the thought of being with them does too.

14. Sometimes I think I can read minds. Actually, I'm just really good at understanding people and its not difficult for me to pick up on how others are feeling. I often surprise myself.

15. I'm a true product of southern California. I really despise cold winters. I just wasn't built for it.

16. I find a good cry to be cleansing and rejuvenating and take advantage of that often.

17. I'm very passionate about what I care about. That's worked both negatively and positively for me but I like being that way.

18. I have an incredibly intense temper but few have seen it and few ever will.

19. I'm a feeler and I naturally investigate life at a deep emotional level. Because of that, I can be painfully hurt so I prefer to stay in control of my relationships although I don't always.

20. My astrological sign is connected to the very roots of my sex drive. Enough said.

21. I love to run. It's one of my favorite forms of my many self-medicating methods.

22. I love being a brunette.

23. I'm a list maker and do significantly better and get more done that way.

24. I'm lost without google or my BlackBerry. I google every question that comes to mind at any time during any day.

25.Therefore, I'm full of useless and ridiculous facts such as, men fart an average of 17 times per day, and the last time American green cards were actually green was in 1964.

My Life List Pt. 1

posted on: Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Naturally, I'm a dreamer. Thankfully, I was also born to one. My mother is a dreamer and despite many odds, she's accomplished so many of her lifetime dreams and goals. At a young age, she taught me to cut out pictures of dreams that I want to see and do during my lifetime from magazines. From those pictures, we created our first "Dream Book" and filled the book with pictures and words of things we'd hoped to someday see, do, or have. Years later, I can now look at that first dream book that we created and I can put a check mark next to many of those pictures. Since then, I've made many dream books. Gratefully, I still have too many dreams. Many will be accomplished, and others may not be, but I cannot imagine a life void of dreams and goals. So here are a few. There will be many more to come.
