california (and AZ) dreamin’

Honey and I have been roadtrippin’ for a whole week! It’s been amazing to say the very least. We’ve had a good dose of sunshine, time with loved ones and tons of fun. In short, I’m not at all ready to get back to real life. It’s like I need a vacation to get over this vacation, ya know? I’m suffering a severe ‘Aiono Hangover’ which only happens after I spend memory making time with my incredible (and huuuuge) family, and as much as I adore Utah, I’m just aching to live near the ocean again. I’m in the process of uploading all 3 million pictures or so, but until then, a little sneak peek…

tag, you’re it.

I’m excited that Bobbi from, Today I'm Bobbi, tagged me in this fun ‘11 things’ meme. I’ve kind of been putting it off for a little bit, not because I don’t want to do it, mostly because I can’t think of 11 interesting things to say about myself, but here it goes anyway…

1. Post these rules
2. Post a photo of yourself and 11 random things
3. Answer the questions set for you in the original post
4. Create 11 new questions and tag people to answer them
5. Go to their blog/twitter and tell them that you've tagged them.

1. I’m too emotional for my own good. Kristen Bell said it best, “If I’m not between a 3 and 7 on the emotional scale, I’m crying”. This is me dead on. I cry when I’m happy, and I cry when I’m sad, and sometimes I’m not even sad or happy, I’m just crying. Such a baby.

2. I’m the oldest sibling and I love it because it means I’m the BOSS and what I say goes. (I realize that my siblings are all adults now and this is actually very untrue, but I figure as long as I keep saying it, they might continue to believe it. Bwahahaha <—and that’s them laughing at  me. I know, I know.)

3. In my past life, I’m pretty positive I was a gangsta rapper. I know this because my flows are tight, I’ve got crazy mad swagger and I’ll school anyone in a Tupac lyric battle. Okay, none of that is true except for the part about battling out some Tupac. Who wants to try me?

4. I’m addicted to the www. but aren’t we all?

5. Now that I don’t have cable television, I watch more T.V. than ever before. Let’s face it, I’m a true Hulu Plus and Netflix whore.

6. I sing. All. Day. Long. It’s just what I do. It’s like whistling while you work but better.

7. I seriously require at least eight hours of sleep. I have since I was a little girl (I earned my nickname, Medusa, fair and square). And if I don’t get it, stay out of my way. Please.

8. I’m a Gleek. And Honey is too, but he won’t admit it if you ask him. Musicals are just my thing and Lea Michele is my girl.

9. I read the Twilight series. And I’m not even that ashamed because you probably did too. Better yet, I’m totally not sorry for the fact that I am so excited for The Hunger Games movie this weekend and I may or may not be contemplating dressing up as the girl on fire. Hmmm…

10. I wish I had better fashion sense. Like my sisters.

11. I play the piano and guitar. Neither of them well, but I play them nonetheless.

11 Questions From Bobbi:

1. Who is your favorite author and name your favorite book by them. I don’t really have a favorite author. But I have a favorite book. Memoirs of a Geisha by, Arthur Golden. I read it after I saw the movie and I have no idea how I even followed the movie without having read the book. It’s so worth every minute.

2. Roughly, {since we're all vain here} how many times a day do you scope yourself out in a reflective surface {other than your bathroom mirror}? Probably every time I pass a reflective surface. My eyeliner has a tendency to run, okay?

3. What's your dream job? Oh boy. This is hard. I want to be on Broadway. Not because I have any Broadway talent, but you asked about my dream job, so there you have it. My house is one big Broadway stage full of bright lights and colorful backdrops… and my neighbors hate me for it.

4. What's your favorite thing about yourself? I’m multi-racial. My father is an islander from Samoa and New Zealand, and my mama is a cute white girl :) I like to think it’s a good combo.

5. Kill, bang or marry {you know the rules}: Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ryan Reynolds. Easy. Kill Joseph, Bang Ryan R. and Marry Ryan G. I’m not gonna lie, this game has always been kind of awkward for me.

6. If you had to pick one place to live for the rest of your life, where would it be? New Zealand. But I’d have to bring my whole family with me because I’m way too fond of Sunday dinners.

7. What's the last thing you ate? One of my cake balls! I rarely eat them, but this was a new flavor and I just had to try it. It was totally worth it.

8. What's your biggest deal-breaker in a relationship? The relationship with my family. We’re a package deal.

9. If you could poke one person in the eye {famous or not} without any consequences, who would it be and why? Ummm. Donald Trump. Because I think he’s obnoxious and I just want to be able to say I did it.

10. Who is your biggest blog crush? Sydney from, The Daybook. I love her sweet little life, her chubby little boy and her incredible knack for fashion.

11. What's the song you want to be playing during the opening credits of the movie of your life? This is a good one. Problem is, I have no idea! Do I really have to pick just one?! Okay fine. The Tide is High, by Blondie. Ha! Yes, really!

And now it’s MY questions!…

1. What is the #1 most played song on your itunes/ipod/whatever?

2.What is one of your favorite quotes?

3. What do you miss most about childhood?

4. What are you afraid of?

5. Do you like your middle name?

6. Who is your least favorite Disney princess and why? Hahaha.

7. What’d you do for you last birthday?

8. Breakfast for dinner?

9. What is the last thing you purchased?

10. Where is your dream vacation?

11. Biggest pet peeve?

So, everyone, join on in! If you do, comment and let me know! I want to get to know you too!

chasing sanity

posted on: Sunday, March 18, 2012

It’s been one of those weeks. I can’t seem to stop the flow of tears and it probably has something to do with being overworked and underslept, oh, and being a woman with woman hormones hasn’t helped my case either. Four more days and I’ll be back on the beaches of the 619 (that’s San Diego for those of you who aren’t down with my lingo). My little heart just can’t wait for such a well deserved vaycay and Honey can’t wait for me to be a normal person again. I laced up my running shoes this morning and set out in search of a little dose of sanity, and thank goodness, I found some. It’s amazing what some alone time and a lot of sweating can do for a girl like me. Wednesday, please get here quickly.

XO,

Kait

one time, when we went to a Jazz game…

posted on: Friday, March 16, 2012

You can’t actually be a true Salt Lake City “downtowner” unless you root for the Utah Jazz. I’m pretty sure it’s stated somewhere in the city guide (whatever that is).

Honey and I are Jazz fans. Duh. And we’ve got a whole lotta passion. So we went to a game the other night and cheered our little hearts out. It was awesome. Not to mention, I high fived C.J. Miles, who we voted MVP of the game, and I’m pretty sure I may have sparked a twinkle in Gordon Hayward’s eyes. Honey got a silent shoutout from past-Jazz player Jeff Hornaceck, which pretty much made his decade, and naturally, despite all of my excitement, I still managed to consume an entire box of red vines. All in all, it was a night to be remembered. And we won. Which is really all that matters. Gooo Jazz!

i wanna be like you

I look like my mom. People have always told me that, and I’ve always been just fine with it. My mom is lovely. A beautiful woman in every sense of the word, and a little part of me (or maybe a whole lot of me) loves that I resemble her. Last night, Mom was presented with the 2012 Hilda B. Jones Special Educator of the Year Award, and while there are no words to explain how I truly feel about her, I just can’t believe that this incredible-amazing-inspiring-extraordinary-remarkable-brilliant-woman is my mother (okay, I can totally believe it, but you know what I mean). I just might be THE luckiest girl on the planet because I resemble this crazy-funny-smart-kind-special-woman. As I left the banquet in her honor last night, my heart was full of gratitude for all of the students and professionals within the Special Education field that were recognized, but especially for my mama. Who I look like. But who, most importantly, I am so inspired to BE like.

I’m certainly glad you were born, Honeybuns. Without you, life just wouldn’t be nearly as special. You are the Clyde to my Bonnie, the candy to my eye and the best friend I could ever dream of having.

I love you.

Our bipolar weather decided to grace us with a little taste of Spring this weekend and although I still felt “under the weather”, this sickie sickie sick girl was not about to pass up 60 degrees and a good dose of vitamin D. Oh, sunshine, you make my heart sing. Here’s to hoping this weather will stick around for a bit, or forever, that works too.

Happy Monday!

Kait
