1. The new downtown grocery store that opened this week. People, trust me, this is a BIG deal. On Monday, I walked there, did a little grocery shopping damage (which made me rethink my decision to walk and had me contemplating calling a cab to help me home) when I remembered that I was only two blocks away. Two blocks! So, I threw that very heavy 'damage' over my shoulder and I trekked it home. And even though it was heavy and totally uncomfortable, it was ok. Because the grocery store is two. blocks. away. and I was home in a jiffy. Not to mention, that place is a beauty. Downtown living has never been more convenient.

2. Buy one get one free gelato at the world’s best downtown grocery store. Okay, this is currently NOT rocking my world but it IS at the same time. It’s the weirdest thing…

3. The free workout room at our apartment complex that I JUST found out about that NO ONE ever uses. Seriously?! I guess it’s better (one year) late than never.

4. Honey language. He speaks to me in the language of my heart. Kit Kat.

5. Finally fitting my hair into a ponytail ponystub. It’s a convenience factor thing and trust me, it rocks.

6. Sir Franklyn Felix Finnegan Mcfloyd. Because he’s just nice to have around.

And there you have it… my daily walk to work. Admit it, you’d walk this walk too if it got you to work. I sure do love my city!

Weekend, please hurry up. I am so ready for you.

There wasn’t a celebrity at the Staples Center that was as comfortable as we were during last night’s show. I’m sure of it.

I love the Grammy Awards. I always have. And this year was no exception.

Here’s what I left with:

  • If Adele were to create a television show that was nothing but a black screen and her talking, I’d watch every season. She’s the cutest thing ever. And no big deal, but I knew she was going to own the show.
  • No one does it like Whitney Houston. No one probably ever will.
  • I seriously love Chris Martin. And his daughter looks exactly like him. Which is kind of cute.
  • Nicki Minaj has officially freaked me out. Girl be n.u.t.s. Straight up.
  • Foo Fighters? Foo Fighters?! Foo Fighters??!! Enough already.
  • Taylor Swift would still be pretty even as a polygamist.

and…

  • LL really stands for ‘Lip Lickin’. Or ‘Large Lips’. I don’t know. But it’s definitely something about lips.

All in all, the music biz is still crazy, in the crazyawesome way, and as much as I don’t want to admit it (okay, I do), I still catch myself holding my breath after each commercial break for a surprise N’Sync reunion Grammy performance.

It could happen.

Watch Adele’s performance.

Honey and I are boycotting Valentine's Day.

Okay, we're not really, I just have to work. So, we had our own 'mini-vday' Saturday night. We gorged enjoyed a delicious dinner, then tossed a coin to decide whether or not we would continue our romantic outing at the arcade or (my choice -->) go home and cuddle up to some Whitney Houston (who is a treasure, btw. May you rest in peace, Ms. Whitney). The arcade won, but in true form, I was the 'Queen of the Night' and still managed to finish it off reliving my dear childhood in Honey's arms. He had no idea I could hit all the high notes in 'I Will Always Love You', and was super impressed (which might be a total exaggeration. Okay it is)

Ph.D.'s and Petroglyphs

posted on: Wednesday, February 8, 2012

My mama, The Superstar, had to venture a few hours south this weekend for an all day recruiting trip job interview at Southern Utah University. You see, this summer, my Mama Bear will become, Mama Bear, Ph.D., which is pretty freakin' cool, right? Anyway, I couldn't imagine letting her go alone, nor could I refuse an opportunity to get ANY closer to the equator, so I went with her. We gabbed the entire way, ate 'hole-in-the-wall Mexican food (because it's always the best), and checked into a cute bed and breakfast (and by cute, I mean semi-creepy in that 'so-creepy-it's-cute' kinda way. ya know?).
Sooo...
Mom took off to school early the next morning which left me free to wander about all day long. I did what any normal young city girl does when she's all alone in a small town for a day. I grabbed a hatchet, my pepper spray and my iPhone and headed 13 miles northeast to the middle of nowhere in search of ancient petroglyphs. And I found them. (okay, google may or may not have given me a hint or two). Either way, I stumbled upon just another one of the 1,968 reasons I love Utah, and had an awesome day lounging on rocks where ancients have gathered.
And then...
Mama took the job (yay! woohoo! great work!), which just so happens to mean she's going to live in that small (but kind of awesome) town, which just so happens to be within minutes from some of the greatest national parks and monuments ever, which ultimately means, "BRING IT ON, SUMMER", oh, and, "Mom, please be sure to have a few guest rooms and at least 2 bathrooms."

On a serious note, I am so proud of her. She is extraordinary and I'm just so totally excited for all of the great experiences that are heading her way.

The Man...
... and his spaceship. Duh.
